Luciano Bussu, proud owner of Casa del Formaggio, says he was “born in cheese” and that this eventually led him to open his Urbino shop in 1988.

Bussu’s customers have grown to trust his unswerving devotion to high-quality products.

Bussu and his shop have overcome many challenges, including the rise of supermarkets and the 2007 global financial crisis.

Casa del Formaggio ships products to France, Australia, the United States, and all over Italy.

Through the products the shop sells, Bussu preserves many Italian family traditions. Gabannini honey, for example, originated in Urbino in 1913 and continues to be made by the same family of bee keepers.

As a business owner, Bussu has sacrificed many hours ensuring that everything runs smoothly. He would rather his daughters, 13 and 18, go to college and pursue a different career.

“I am always kind to customers, being kind is very important to my shop and I always have a smile on my face to sort of cheer people up,” Bussu says.

Bussu is willing to do whatever it takes to ensure that his clients are satisfied – even delivering products to them.

During his lunch breaks, Bussu loves to go across the street to Caffe de Sole for a coffee and chat with its owner, Romina Piccolo, seen here.

Over the years, Bussu has kept drawings his two daughters made for him when they were younger.

In the end, Bussu puts his family first, and every Thursday he closes his shop early to have a leisurely meal with them.

At the piercing sound of the six o’clock bells, 7-year-old Luciano Bussu smiled knowingly–it was time.
